Therapy FAQs

What can I expect in my first virtual Therapy session?

First of all, breathe! You did it - you scheduled your first therapy appointment! During our first meeting, I will spend a few minutes reviewing key points regarding confidentiality and my practice’s policies. The rest of the initial session will be focused on learning about you, your background, and what you are hoping to get out of therapy. My style is down-to-earth, intentional, and collaborative. We will begin to discuss your therapy goals together and I will recommend specific types of therapy or strategies to best support you. By the end of our meeting, we will decide if we think we are a good fit for each other and make a plan for moving forward!

How long are the appointments? How often do I attend Therapy?

Standard therapy sessions are 50 minutes long. Most people attend therapy on a weekly or bimonthly basis.

How long will I be attending Therapy?

The length of therapy can vary depending on each person and the issues being addressed. Therapy can be short-term (ranging from a few weeks to a few months), to deal with more immediate challenges, or long-term (a few months to a few years), dealing with longstanding and complex issues. The goals of therapy and frequency of therapy play a large role here. We will have open and candid chats about how you feel therapy is going for you and your individual timeline.

Can I do Somatic Therapy online?

Yes, you can do Somatic Therapy online! Some people actually prefer to practice Somatic Therapy from the comfort of their own home, with access to more resources in their immediate environment. Online Somatic Therapy provides a safe, accessible therapy option for adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health struggles (in Houston and all across the state of Texas). I incorporate all of my somatic therapy training and trauma training into my work with clients and make it a priority to attune to you, even through a screen. We will support your embodied experience of feeling supported and not alone.

I live outside of Texas  - can I still schedule a Therapy appointment with you?

Due to current licensing laws, therapists licensed in Texas may only see clients physically located in Texas. There are a few telehealth exceptions in certain states. Please contact me for more information about this if needed.

What are your rates? Do you accept insurance?

Standard sessions are 50 minutes in length at a rate of $175. Therapy intensive rates vary by length of service.

I have thoughtfully decided to practice as an out-of-network provider to maintain individualized, quality care to the best of my ability. Although I am not in network with insurance, I do provide superbills for those who have out-of-network benefits. As a social justice advocate, I also maintain a few openings on my caseload for siding-scale / reduced fee sessions.

Pregnancy Coaching FAQs

What is the difference between Coaching and Therapy?

Coaching sessions are generally focused on actionable steps to reach a client’s identified goals in a specific area of life. Coaching sessions are more structured and tend to emphasize present progress and future outcomes. While there can be an emotional component to coaching sessions, these meetings are less focused on delving into deep emotional experiences and more focused on practical strategies and keeping a client accountable on their timeline. Coaching sessions also tend to be more directive than therapy sessions.

Therapy sessions are designed to dive deeper into a client’s inner world, with more focus on exploring specific emotional and psychological experiences and/or patterns. Therapy often involves revisiting past experiences and emotions to understand how they impact the present. While goals and structure can certainly be present in therapy, the emotional safety of the client and the quality of the developing relationship between the client and therapist is prioritized. Therapists are licensed providers trained in various therapeutic techniques to help clients gain insights, overcome emotional challenges, and make meaningful changes in their lives over time.
